My husband Trevor and I loved each other but that love was on a very weak foundation, devoid of the Word of God. So it was not at all difficult for Satan to do his work as liar and accuser.
When I read the book of Zechariah and understood the double-role of the evil one as liar and accuser, it became clear to me why my ex-therapist’s behavior was so destructive. The lies were bad enough but what was particularly pernicious was his attempts to accuse and shame me for my problems. This made it very difficult for me to distinguish between the original problem that Trevor and I were seeking therapy for and the destructive effects of Kit Balane’s unethical treatments in therapy.
You see, when we make an error or do wrong, Satan comes into action in two ways for the purpose of making us turn away from God: One, Satan will deceive you with lies, saying you are right and that you should continue in your wrongdoing, making you turn away from God. The other, Satan will accuse you of your wrongdoing, blaming and shaming you until you are trapped in your guilt and turn away from God completely.
Do not let the evil one deceive and accuse you. The truth is:
Forgiveness is for the sinner. Salvation is for the repentant. Do not turn away from God. Rather, turn towards Him! Don’t let the evil one deceive you.
In Zechariah, Satan stood to accuse Joshua of his filthy garments. But the LORD plucks the sinner away from the fire and justifies him who walks in the way of the LORD:
Today, I find comfort in the promises of God in the Bible. All that suffering was not for nothing. All of my afflictions were good for me, they were ordained by God, because now I pay attention to the decrees of the LORD. He has promised those who walk His ways,
How faithful is our LORD! Praise be the holy name of our LORD forever!
